That question has so many answers and I could be on here for days going through what I believe in detail. I would summarize my opinions and say that men want to be around women that they regard as their best friend or soul mate. Someone they feel comfortable to be around and be themselves with, just as women would with a guy. Someone they can act natural around. And why do you say 'if all women are potential lovers'? Guys don't regard all women as potential lovers. They regard most women as potential lays. Only a small handful of women are potential lovers. Guys usual fall in love if everything is there, the whole package. A women needs to be able to make a guy feel really comfortable and a lot of guys like to be 'looked after'. Sounds as if you might be having problems keeping a guy. Perhaps you just haven't found the right one yet?
I basically agree with everything that has already been said. A woman, the right woman, will 'fit' her man (and vice-versa), she will agree on the things that matter, be prepared to accept and accommodate the differences and foibles, be prepared to go the distance in whatever direction life takes them despite initial concerns. And she must have the capacity to amuse/entertain/excite, year after year. Likewise, he for her! Most relationships fail through boredom, and/or refusal to travel outside of 'the comfort zone' for the sake of the partner.

I think it's about the chase after the lay, as there is so much to unravel and the courtship and chase continues and I personally find that hard to want to continue to achieve if i feel looked after. Now he has to know that he is safe around you but to cater to me would never keep me around I want to have to prove me worth and love to a confident women day after day
