why do "nice guys" finish last?

I am a 100% straight guy, an only parent of 2 kids and I have been a widower for 6 years. I've also been alone for that 6 years. I have been branded as a "nice guy" many times, which feels like a curse, because, even though they say they do, women just dont want a nice guy. So, what do women want? An egotistical asshole that treats them like shit? Why?! So how should I treat women? I'm sick of being so lonely & depressed, and just want to find a lasting relationship. Also, where should i try to meet women? This online dating has proven to be pointless, frustrating, and full of fake profiles. Please help!

Not all women like *ssholes but I hear you. Unfortunately women seem to be conditioned to go for guys that they think exhibit more of the alpha male characteristics and guys who are *ssholes usually are. It must relate to a survival instinct from our ancestors but times have changed since then. I think the alpha males are now those that are smart rather than *ssholes. Keep looking at the right woman will come along.
